Tattoo Tour - Caspian Jake Palmer

*Friendly reminder:  I freehand EVERYTHING, so the ones that look off... don't judge too harshly, that just means I didn't wake up with my painting abilities that day.*

I LOVE doing tattoo updates, and if you follow my Pinterest you know my posts are just full of those, but I figured, why not just make a chaotic post of me going more in depth about my favori—ahem I’m sorry I don’t play favorites—the doll who inspired me to create RestlessRoseDolls:

✨ Mr. Caspian Jake Palmer✨

I’ve been working off and on on him for… Roughly three years now? I just kinda find random tattoos that I like and go oh! That would be cool! So… idk he’s like a beautiful mosaic because there is no design or layout behind this.

But I will do a little background about him before I get into the actual “tattoo” part…

Here’s a really bad picture of him and Ty, but I just wanted to include it because it was WAY before I started filling in his sleeves and it is just SO wacky for me to remember him like that!! And seriously, I don’t think I can remember a time where he hasn’t worn that cross… like it’s just a part of him now or something.

So let’s see. I bought Caspian (who was then GOTY Isabel Palmer) for $11 at Value Village innnnnn 2019ish. And I’ve always ALWAYS called him Cassie so if I just revert and end up calling him that, don’t get confused 😂

✨I’m just going to take a quick moment to acknowledge GramCatsCloset on Etsy because she is the ONLY person I will buy boy doll wigs from!! She closed her shop a few years ago and I was heartbroken, BUT! She’s back!! And I am so excited!! The day she stops making boy wigs will be the day I no longer add guys to my collection.✨

Now I’m not gonna lie… I REALLY don’t know WHERE to begin, so I think I might just take random pictures and well… we will see where life takes us.

Actually... I think I'll start with my least favorite tattoos and then move on to higher notes.

Okay.  So.  These three tattoos were the first ones I ever did... I remember little me was going for a "lightning" effect but... idk how successful I was?  Love the heart and the mask though!

So... I genuinely hate this butterfly... (first off, I don't know what it was with me and blue butterflies for him but... apparently it's a trend), and every day I fight the urge to take it off and paint over it.  The issues are a) it'll stain and b) I haven't found a replacement tattoo yet because well... the spot is a little harder to paint than it looks.

Again with the butterflies... I really dk man.  I have a love hate relationship with his left sleeve...
*okayso we went to Google, and blue butterflies supposedly signify "personal growth, freedom, and good luck" which, capture his personality perfectly fine so maybe I knew what I was doing a little bit?*

I honestly, really do love these roses... the faces were another one of the first tattoos I did on him, and I love how I just took the theme and rolled with it.

On to bigger and brighter things!!!

I'm pretty sure... that the semicolon tattoo is my favorite.  It's so small and so simple, but I spent SO long trying to find the right spot for it and I just... ✨I love it so much✨

I love the shark, really I do, I think my favorite memory about it is when I went upstairs to show my mom she assumed it was a sticker... reaffirmed my painting abilities a bit.  And then the skull is her favorite of his tattoos (at least it was last time I checked).  You can't really see, because I forgot to photograph the top of his right arm, but the spider and sword... they way they turned out... love.

I am OBSESSED with this snake, and I love the snake on the other side of his neck too but this one in particular... it just makes me happy.  This was the first neck tattoo I did for him, and I remember I was so stressed doing it and trying to get it right, but two years later I still just love it.

Okay... the lovebirds are another one of my favorites!  I really disliked painting them, and they definitely have a different texture than the other tattoos... idk what was wrong with my paints, but the colors are just everything, and I think they really help balance the darker colors.

This tattoo is a mix of new and old, I just added the words last week.  I was SO excited to finally add the words!  I feel like it just adds so much.  I just didn't have the right pen (until now obv) so I'd never completed the tattoo.  But now that it's done!  It makes me happy!

OK... y'all... the way the barbed wire turned out... I was SO proud of myself...
I need to go in and repaint the Death, it's faded, but I promise that was a T at one point, not an L, lol

Not one of my favorites... but I love this little frog.  It makes me sad because it's in the inside of his wrist, so it never shows up in pictures.  Painting it was weird though, trying to get the angles and for it to turn out and look right...

Obv, my account is Rose Dolls, so you gotta include the roses... I literally just did these about half an hour ago.

I absolutely positively LOVE this sun-moon that I did.  I do NOT paint faces for the LIFE of me, so the fact that they turned out... the pride I had... I just... love love love.  If I were to redo it, I would've placed it a LITTLE lower though, because it always gets cut off by shorts, but oh well.

More roses!  They did NOT photograph well, but they are some of my favorites!

So. Tattoo placement was probably less than ideal… (I promise there is a backstory about it) but I LOVE the way the eye turned out!!!

Again with the odd tattoo placement, but here’s the dragonfly! And that red string of fate, I LOVE those on him and Jordi

And I think that covers all the high points!

  1. I am just... in awe that you have the artistic ability to do all this. I'm not a bad artist per se, but like. I don't have that much faith in my talents to do what you do. His tattoos are BEAUTIFUL. Do you just use acrylic paint for them?
I'm still tempted to give Troy tattoos because his entire right arm is stained red? The thing that's stopping me is that his character is 16 and I feel like he wouldn't commit to a tattoo at such a young age. And, you know, confidence in my art.

    1. Uhm. Let me try and condense this to a comment. Firstly, thank you! Secondly, haha, Troy being 16 is a small-ish issue. Could make a really hilarious story though! Yes, I mainly use acrylics, although I use crayola-supposedly-washable-markers and/or artist pen on his torso, and for some of the smaller things or words, I also use pen! Just note though, that black acrylic paints do stain (I'm not sure about the colored ones yet) so if you ever decide you want to take it off do NOT use nail polish remover (guess who learned that the hard way, took me about three years) because it just rubs the paint around and worsens the stain. Rubbing alcohol is the best way to go! Every time I go to paint a tattoo, I always question my artistic ability, so a lot of the time what I do is I'll sketch it out in pencil first! When I was first starting out and painting some of the bigger tattoos, such as the first snake or the Grim Reaper, I drew them in marker first, since marker wipes away easily and it gives you a visual of whether you actually want to commit to painting a tattoo or not.
I probably went too in depth, but if you have any questions or comments you can always message my Pinterest (lol), I'd love to hear from you!
